Orthotics and Prosthetics

LEWis Brand Orthotics

LEWis Brand Orthotics: Discover the wonders of orthotics, the tailored solutions that provide unparalleled support, alignment, and relief for full body symptoms.

Orthotics refers to the field of healthcare that focuses on the design, manufacture and use of custom-made or prefabricated devices called orthoses.

Orthoses are designed to support, align, or improve the function of various parts of the body, but primarily, feet, ankles and lower limbs.

who needs to see me?

Orthotics covers a broad spectrum of conditions covering the entire body from tips of the toes to top of the head. Orthotic devices can be custom made or an off the shelf design chosen specifically to meet a client’s individual needs.

Orthotic intervention is like scaffolding for our body allowing us to improve the bodies biomechanics, realign joints, add pain relief and injury recovery and prevention.

I already have insoles; are the ones you make different.

At LEWis BRAND Orthotics we pride ourselves on finding the correct insole material and design to support, offload and realign tailored to the individual clients’ symptoms, activities, footwear choices and treatment goals.

We can prescribe 3 d printed, carbon fibre and EVA foam insoles and have adopted the latest technologies in 3 D scanning to create first class results for our clients.

Where did you study and what was the course like?

Laura studies at The National Centre for Prosthetics and Orthotics at Strathclyde University one of only 2 sites in the UK offering the training.

The course involved 3 years at University with model patients coming in for each block of learning so we could develop our skills. The final year of my training included 2 6 months placements one in Prosthetics which was at the Cumberland Infimary in Carlisle and the orthotics placement was at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.

It was on this placement in Cambridge that I really developed a passion for Orthotics and the many diverse range of topics and prescriptions it covers, from then to now no two days in my professional career have ever been the same and it is this diversity in being able to help people with a whole variety of conditions and symptoms that I find really exciting.

What do you like to do outside of the clinic?

I love to walk our family Clumber Spaniel Dog on a daily basis which keeps me connected with the outdoors come rain or shine.

I also attend a weekly pilates class to work on my core fitness and most of the rest of my time when not working is spent running around after our 2 little boys who certainly keep me on my toes and ensure there is never a dull or quiet moment at our house.

When the opportunity arises I love a date night with my husband to go and eat some tasty food- Indian is one of my favourites and an opportunity to have a girls night out is always very welcome.
