Chartered Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist
I have always wanted a career where I get to help people on a daily basis. As a physiotherapist I get to work with people who are injured to enable them to recover as quickly as possible and to achieve their goals.
I don’t like to sit still for too long and being a physiotherapist means I get to be physically active in my job and my office can be anything from a gym, to a park, or even a hydrotherapy pool.
I trained at Teesside University up in the North East. I did the Masters degree course which was very intense as the content is condensed into 2 years along with 1000 hours of clinical placement. It was extremely demanding but definitely worth the effort.
My first role as a physio involved providing treatment and sports massage for a local football team which was an interesting environment to work in! For the past 4 years I have worked for a large private healthcare provider. My job as a senior physiotherapist involved assessing and treating a varied caseload of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. I also did some work on an NHS contract providing telephone triage assessments for post surgical and MSK patients.
The most rewarding patients for me are those that actively engage with the treatment plan as they see the maximum benefit from Physiotherapy. I also enjoy treating patients with long-standing injuries as treatment can be challenging but so rewarding when you see a positive impact.
I have an 11 month old son who keeps me busy most of the time, day and night! My other main passion is horse riding and I would love to own my own horse again once time and money allows. In the meantime I enjoy walking in the countryside with my family and our golden retriever, Millie. I also enjoy playing and watching sports and going to the gym regularly, although probably not often enough at the minute!
My short term aim is to work as an integral part of an enthusiastic team while continuing to improve my clinical skill set. I am also keen to specialise in shoulder treatment and to complete a joint injection course.
