Foot Health Practitioners

What is the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist?

There is no difference between podiatry and chiropody. They are two different words describing the same profession. All chiropodists have a degree in podiatry. A podiatrist or chiropodist will assess and treat your feet in the same way.

Whats the difference between a Podiatrist and a Foot Health Practitioner?

If you compared a Chiropodist/Podiatrist and Foot Health Practitioner in their clinic, you would probably notice very few differences. The key difference would seem to be the training. Podiatry is a 3 year degree level course and is a regulated profession. As well as routine foot care they train additional in order to prescribe certain medications, manage wounds, do minor sugeries and study biomechanical, whereas Foot Health Practitioners practice routine skin and nail care such as hard skin removal, fungal nails, and toe nail trims.

Do podiatrists treat children?

Yes, we regularly treat children at the clinic. The most common treatment administered for children is verrucae treatment.

I have diabetes, why do I need to take extra care of my feet?

Diabetes affects the blood and nerve supply to the feet. This can mean that you may not feel things as normal. BY getting your feet regularly check by a professional it can avoid any complications such as ulcers and infections.
