What Does Children’s Physiotherapy Involve?
Children’s physiotherapy is all about helping children and young people move well, grow confidently, and participate fully in their daily lives. That could mean playing, learning, walking, or enjoying time with friends.
We focus on how your child’s body moves, what’s working well, and what might be getting in the way. From there, we build a plan to support them in reaching their goals, whatever those goals may be.
Some children might need support to reach key developmental milestones like crawling, standing, or walking. Others may be recovering from an injury, managing a long-term condition, or navigating a new diagnosis. Some young people may simply need reassurance, guidance, and a little support to feel more confident in their movement.
Who Do I Help?
We work with children and young people aged 0 to 19 with a wide range of needs. This includes, but isn’t limited to:
- Babies and toddlers with delayed development or difficulties meeting milestones
- Children with neurological conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, or global developmental delay
- Young people with learning disabilities or physical disabilities
- Children recovering from fractures, surgery, or musculoskeletal injuries
- Teenagers with movement concerns, pain, fatigue, or coordination issues
- Young adults going through the transition from children’s to adult health services
I also support families with practical advice around postural care, equipment, everyday routines, and ways to help your child thrive at home, in school, and in the community.
How Do We Work?
The most important thing to know is that I take a person-centred, family-focused approach.
Every child is different, and so is every therapy plan. We start with an in-depth assessment where I get to know your child and understand your concerns. This helps us create a plan that works for your family and focuses on what truly matters to you.
Therapy might take place in the clinic, at your home, or in school, depending on what’s best for your child. I also offer hydrotherapy sessions where suitable.
Most importantly, we will work alongside you. You know your child better than anyone else, and your insight is a vital part of their care.
A Final Word
If you’re unsure whether physiotherapy might help your child, please feel free to reach out. Sometimes just having a conversation is the first step toward understanding what’s going on and finding the right support.
It’s our job and our passion to help children move, explore, and participate with confidence, and to support families every step of the way.
