Not just for injuries
You don’t need to be in pain to book.
Most people only see a clinician once something hurts. A running assessment works the other way round: it looks at how you run, how strong you are and how you’re training, so you can run more efficiently and keep doing it.
If you do have pain or a niggle, that’s fine too. Start here. We’ll adapt the session to you, and if something needs treating we can look after it in the same building.
There’s no single “correct” way to run. We won’t try to make everyone run the same. We look for the changes most likely to help you, and leave the rest alone.
What happens
Your hour, step by step.
Every session is adapted to you, so the balance shifts depending on your goals and experience. This is what a typical assessment covers.

Your running story
Your goals, running history, any past injuries, and how your training has been going. We’ll look at your weekly mileage, recent changes and the trainers you run in.
Movement and control
Simple tests of mobility, balance and single-leg control, the building blocks that every stride relies on.
Treadmill and video analysis
You’ll run on our treadmill at a comfortable pace. Where it’s useful, we film you and slow it down, so you can see exactly what we’re seeing.
Strength and force plate testing
We measure how much force your legs produce and how evenly, using force plates and dynamometry, with hop and jump tests where appropriate.
Your results and plan
We talk you through what we found in plain English, with the key changes to focus on. Where it helps, your findings are emailed to you afterwards, along with a rehab or strength plan if you need one.
Our kit
Measured, not guessed.
Running is repetitive. Small differences in strength or control add up over thousands of steps. Testing them properly means your plan is built on numbers, and you can see your progress rather than wonder about it.
Treadmill and video
See how you really run
Slow-motion video shows things the naked eye misses, from how you land to what your hips and trunk are doing. You’ll see it too, so the advice makes sense.
Force plates
Power and balance, measured
Force plates measure how much force you produce and how evenly between legs when you jump, hop and land. It shows where a real difference sits, rather than a guess.
Strength testing
Find the weak link
Hand-held dynamometry gives a number for key running muscles like your calves, hips and thighs. A clear baseline to train from, and to retest against later.

Who you’ll see
Led by our rehab team.
Running assessments are run by Pierre and Alastair, who lead our rehab and strength work, from post-surgical recovery to Age Strong.
And because our chiropractors, physiotherapists, sports therapists and orthotics service all work under one roof with shared notes, if you need something more, you won’t be sent elsewhere.

Common questions
Before you book.
Can’t see your question? Book a free 10-minute call and we’ll answer it directly.
Do I need to be injured or in pain to book?
No. Many runners book simply to run more efficiently, get stronger or prepare for an event. If you do have pain, you’re welcome to start here too, and we’ll adapt the session to suit.
I'm a beginner and not very fast. Is this for me?
Absolutely. We see runners of every level, from people just starting out to experienced club and marathon runners. Speed doesn’t matter. The assessment is built around your goals.
Will you change my running technique?
Only where it’s likely to help. There’s no single correct way to run, and many runners do well with the style they have. Where a change is worth making, we keep it simple and test it on the treadmill. Often, strength and how you build up your training matter more than form.
What should I bring and wear?
Your usual running kit and the trainers you run in most. If you’re unsure about another pair, bring those too. Any training data from a watch or app is helpful, as are scan reports or letters if you’re coming back from an injury.
Do I have to run hard on the treadmill?
No. You’ll run at a comfortable pace, with time to settle in first. If you’re new to treadmills, that’s fine. We’ll go at your speed.
What happens after the assessment?
We’ll explain your results on the day. Where useful, we’ll email your findings and send a rehab or strength plan if you need one. Some runners carry on on their own; others book follow-up sessions to progress their plan and retest.
What if you find an injury?
We’ll explain what we think is going on and what to do about it. Because our chiropractors, physiotherapists and sports therapists work alongside Pierre and Alastair with shared notes, you can be treated here without starting again somewhere new.
Will I need new trainers or orthotics?
Usually not. We’ll give you honest advice on your footwear, and most runners don’t need orthotics. If we think they would genuinely help, our orthotics and brace fitting service is on site.
I'm older. Is a running assessment still suitable?
Yes. Plenty of people run well into later life, and strength becomes more important with age, so the testing is especially useful. Every session is adapted to you.
Can I claim on private health insurance?
Policies vary, so check with your insurer before booking. We’re happy to help with paperwork.
